UMBILD is a hybrid word that serves as a title for a hybrid artistic research project. An experimental collaboration that gives new expression to existing artworks, represented in the form of media-installations.
A mix between properties and practice, between depicting and rebuilding, between the German 'bild' and the English 'build', between the role as spectator and as participant, between finding and creating, between then and now. Ab- um- ver- bildung in a meta-modernist time. Umbildung as metamorphosis of artistic components.
Umbild is due to result in a process exhibition in Museum the Fundatie in Zwolle (NL) from February until September 2026. The Fundatie’s own collection is the scope of the research field out of which the Belgium Symbolists will excel.
Wieger Steenhuis and Jules van Hulst collaborate under the wings of production house Vaktor. Which has generously granted them a ‘master traject’ for their artistic development.
A test case installation of their findings is presented as a stand-alone installtion at Noorderzon festival 2025 in co-producion with WERC collective.
